On Thursday March 29, 2018 Lifebridge Australia will be officially out of our Caloola Centre and we’re excited to announce our brand-new Tweed Heads Hub within the Seagulls Club on Gollan Drive, Tweed Heads. Our Tweed Heads Seagulls Hub will be opening on Tuesday April 3, 2018 with all remaining Caloola based programs transitioning to our new Hub. The opening of our new hub, and in line with recent changes, is to continue promoting community integration, participation and inclusion of people with disability. Our partnership with Seagulls has been purposefully established for this reason. Seagulls has been an integral part of the Tweed Community for over 40 years and has evolved into a sophisticated and innovative entertainment and recreational centre. Seagulls has a highly respected community support focus and is very proud to be heavily involved in the Tweed Coast community. The club offers a range of recreational facilities including a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness centre, casual waterfront dining venues, indoor and outdoor lounge areas and an indoor sports centre. As part of Seagulls legal requirements, all entrants, including Lifebridge customers will be required to sign in or swipe their membership card before entering the venue. To continue encouraging community inclusion Lifebridge has agreed to cover the initial 3-year membership fee for all current customers. Ongoing memberships will need to be covered at customers’ own expense. All transport runs will be located to and from the Seagulls Club and the Hub will be staffed from 9am to 3pm. Any arrangements outside these hours must be specified in your individual NDIS Plan and confirmed with your Support Coordinator. If you have any further enquiries about the new Tweed Heads Hub please contact Roachelle Hewitson, Day Program Support Coordinator on 0437 694 549. People are excited about being in the community and our Murwillumbah Hub is already proving to be a move in the right direction for Lifebridge. The Murwillumbah Community have fallen in love with our art display, which has prompted the sale of several works in the first couple of weeks of opening. A great achievement for our artists and the realisation of long-term goals for many of our artists. We would love to hear from you as to what you think of our LIfebridge Hubs? We value your feedback and you can contact us at communications@lifebridge.org.au

It has been stated that the NDIS is the greatest social change since the introduction of Medicare. And a scheme of this magnitude cannot be introduced and successfully implemented if organisations such as Lifebridge Australia do not change and align with the new principles and guidelines. As such, Lifebridge is currently going through some big changes and although people can grow accustomed to schedules and routines as it gives them a feeling of comfort, this way of operating isn’t sustainable. We’re required to be agile, flexible and opportunistic to provide the best possible supports to our customers. We’re humbled by the positive attitudes and how many of our customers are already embracing the changes to date. Where possible many of our customers have had the opportunity to be a part of the change and to provide feedback. Prior to the launch of our new Murwillumbah Hub, many customers visited the site and provided comments on the design, location and fit out. Which was a very positive experience. People are excited by being in the community and the opportunity for increased capacity building. Both our Chinderah and Murwillumbah Hubs are proving to be a huge success and we’re excited for the launch of our West Tweed hub as well. Establishing hubs within the local community, is very much in the spirit of the NDIS. The scheme is fundamentally about increasing capacity and community integration. Our hubs are a step towards achieving just that and will provide our customers with increased: integration with the local communities access to mainstream activities opportunities to meet individual goals range of choices time participating in activities As we embark on this new adventure, let’s take a moment to reflect. Lifebridge have a long history in the Tweed Shire and during that time we have built up quite a reputation for our customer service. We have seen many changes happen during our 30 years in operation. Customers and staff have come and gone, our locations have changed, but throughout it all we have always stood strong and proud and we will continue to do so for many years to come.
