Move to the Groove is our latest Aged Care program to be launched and the benefits it’s providing for our customers is already becoming very apparent.

Kicking off in February 2018, the program has been running for just under 2 months and the Groovers are really getting into the swing of things. Each week the participants are learning and remembering more and more actions.

They’re improving their timings, their coordination and most importantly having a great time doing so. Already we are witnessing the improved personas of the participants. They’re happier, more engaged, more social. And it’s not just during the program, it’s in their day-to-day life as well. It’s changing their attitudes and giving them purpose and meaning again. The group is filled with infectious laughter, coupled with the serious concentration of others. It doesn’t matter what your approach, as you’re having a good time.

Move to the Groove, is an excellent program to get participants up and moving, but to also stimulate the mind. Check out our fantastic Groovers as they showcase their dance moves.

Move to the Groove runs on Mondays from 10am to 2pm. If you’re interested in joining or would like further information contact Lifebridge on 1800 043 186.

We are delighted to report that our first day at the new Tweed Heads Seagulls Hub went very well. Our customers experienced minimal disruption or challenges which can be associated with change and this is a credit to the extensive preparation the team implemented, not only on our first day but also in the weeks leading up to the move. Customers are already experiencing positive outcomes with groups spending increased time participating in the community and reduced wait/down times. Customers are also taking full advantage of becoming Seagulls members, accessing the main complex, outside garden areas, water views and menu sampling. For many of our customers a pension card has been the only thing their purse or wallet contains and to see so many proudly showing off personalised photo membership cards really confirms that this new model promotes integration and an opportunity for participants to belong and feel welcome. We have come so far! Three years ago Disability Programs had not been changed for over 10 years. Now we offer customised services in participants’ local communities, our customers are achieving goals such as exhibiting and selling art work, work experience, paid employment and sailing independently just to name a few. US the Band are in hot demand, even taking performances on the road and overnight after being invited to perform at the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Festival recently. From our Art Hub and specialist accommodation at Coral Fern in Murwillumbah to our Pottsville Children’s House, Chinderah DIY renovation and restoration team, Southern Shores community explorers and everything in between our customers are achieving some fantastic outcomes and we couldn’t be prouder. Stay tuned as we share more and more fantastic stories.

Lifebridge and Us the Band will once again be participating in both the Cooly Rocks On and the Murwillumbah Banana Festival Street Parades for 2018. The Cooly Rocks On Festival has evolved to become Australia’s largest rock ‘n’ roll and nostalgia festival and last year Lifebridge won the title of best float in the street parade. For this year’s parade, which will be held on June 9, 2018, the Lifebridge theme is Jail House Rock for all you Elvis wannabes out there. After the 2017 Murwillumbah Banana Festival cancelation due to insurance issues, Banana Jim is back. Lifebridge will once again take part in the street parade on Saturday August 25, 2018 and will also have stalls set-up on the day. Merchandise will be available for sale closer to the festival dates and notices for participants and volunteers will be sent out in due course. Please note that customers on NDIS funding will need quotes and to provide written approval of payment for 2 hours service time on the day. Participating in festivals such as these is one of the ways Lifebridge is integrating with the local community. These events promote inclusivity and is a primary reason why we choose to attend year after year.

We’re extremely excited to announce that our Murwillumbah Hub will be a feature in the upcoming Murwillumbah Art Trail 2018 (MAT18). This year the theme “Moving On” reflects the aftermath of the flood, the resilience of the community and the capacity for art to heal. “Moving On” can apply to everyone, in all stages of their lives, for better or for worse. In our artist’s words “Moving On” means new experiences for all of us. MAT18 transforms Murwillumbah by showcasing its vibrant arts community and becomes the canvas and the context, embracing painting, performance, sculpture, film, dance, street celebrations, food, wine and much more. Taking place between May 18-27, 2018 MAT18 has something for everyone to enjoy and it is the perfect opportunity for you to visit our Murwillumbah Art Hub, meet our fabulous artists and view their amazing works.

When it comes to Public Holidays and the provision of support, there is still a little bit of confusion as to how it all works. The following information seeks to clarify any confusion. We have also included below the public holiday dates for the rest of the year for your information. Aged Care Services Aged Care Services group programs do not operate on public holidays. All Aged Care Commonwealth Home Support Services including flexible respite, social support and domestic assistance are cancelled on public holidays. Home Care Package customers can request in-home support services on a public holiday however, these need to be negotiated. Disability Services Disability Services group programs do not operate on public holidays. The Children’s Respite House and Coral Fern Accommodation houses still operate on a public holiday. Individual service or holiday group activities can be negotiated within NDIS plans during service agreement meetings if budget permits. It is important that any organised services that fall on a public holiday are confirmed with a Lifebridge Support Coordinator. If you have any further questions regarding public holidays and the provision of service, please do not hesitate to contact us. CANCELATION OF LIFEBRIDGE SERVICES If you wish to cancel a Lifebridge service on either a permanent or temporary basis you are to advise the office before 4pm the day prior to the service being undertaken. When the cancellation is temporary, please provide the details of the length of cancellation and the date for service to be recommenced. Please note in line with the SCHADS Modern Award 2010, we are required to pay our staff for late cancellations. A Lifebridge Support Coordinator will assess when you will be charged late cancellation fee based on the circumstances of cancellation. As outlined in our service agreements and in line with NDIS guidelines, Lifebridge can charge up to 8 times the cost of service if 24 hours’ notice is not provided.

Advocacy is the process of standing beside someone and supporting them to understand and exercise their rights and have their voice heard on the issues that are important to them. It is a powerful way to be heard if you feel you are not being treated in a respectful and fair manner. An advocate is an impartial person who can: Give you information about your aged care/disability services rights and responsibilities Help you to resolve concerns/complaints with your service provider Speak with your service provider on your behalf Assist you in making decisions about the care you receive Support you to make informed decisions Increase your capacity to self-advocate Provide practical assistance such as help with writing correspondence or raising your concerns at meetings Refer you to other agencies when needed Lifebridge supports the appointing of an advocate to represent you should you choose. This may be a family member, a friend or someone who is experienced in providing this type of support.
